Drainage & Pipework Services Across the Midlands
Drain unblocking, repair, and pipework installation for domestic properties.
What's Included in Our Drainage Service
Reliable Drainage and Pipework Services
Drainage problems never come at a convenient time. A blocked drain, a damaged waste pipe, or a failing soil stack can cause unpleasant smells, slow-draining sinks, and even water damage to your property if left unattended. Whether it is a straightforward blockage or a more involved pipework repair, we have the tools and experience to sort it out quickly and properly.
We provide a full range of drainage and pipework services for domestic properties across Athlone, Westmeath, and the wider Midlands region.
Our Drainage Services
Drain Unblocking
Blocked drains are one of the most common call-outs we receive. Blockages can occur in internal waste pipes, external drainage runs, or at the gully trap where water exits the building. Common causes include grease build-up, food debris, hair, soap residue, tree root ingress, and foreign objects.
We use professional drain rods, high-pressure water jetting, and manual clearing techniques to remove blockages and restore normal flow. For stubborn or recurring blockages, we investigate the underlying cause - which might be a collapsed pipe section, a misaligned joint, or an inadequate fall gradient - and recommend a permanent fix.
Pipework Repairs
Damaged pipework can range from a cracked joint on a waste pipe under the kitchen sink to a fractured external drainage pipe buried in the garden. We repair and replace sections of pipework using quality PVC drainage pipe and copper or plastic fittings as appropriate. Every repair is pressure-tested and checked for leaks before we consider the job complete.
New Pipework Installation
If you are extending your home, adding a bathroom, or reconfiguring your kitchen layout, new pipework is essential. We design and install waste pipe runs, connecting sinks, baths, showers, washing machines, and dishwashers to your existing drainage system. We ensure every run has the correct fall gradient - the gentle slope that allows wastewater to flow under gravity without pooling or backing up.
External Drainage Work
External drainage covers everything outside the walls of your house: underground pipe runs, manholes, gully traps, soakaway connections, and rainwater drainage. We excavate, repair, and replace external drainage infrastructure, ensuring that surface water and foul water are properly separated and directed to the correct outfall.
Waste Pipe Installation
Individual waste pipe installations are common when adding new appliances or sanitary fittings. We fit waste pipes for sinks, basins, baths, showers, washing machines, and utility rooms. Each installation includes proper trap fittings to prevent drain odours from entering your home.
Common Drainage Problems We Solve
Slow-Draining Sinks and Baths
A sink or bath that takes ages to empty usually has a partial blockage in the waste pipe or trap. We clear the obstruction and check the pipe diameter and fall to ensure long-term flow.
Blocked External Drains
External drains can block due to leaf debris, silt, grease discharge from kitchens, or root ingress from nearby trees and hedging. We clear the blockage and flush the drain run to remove residual debris. Where root ingress is the cause, we can cut back roots and advise on pipe relining or rerouting if the damage is severe.
Damaged Soil Stacks
The soil stack is the large vertical pipe - typically 110mm diameter - that connects your upstairs toilets, baths, and basins to the underground drainage system. Cracked, leaking, or corroded soil stacks cause damp, odours, and potential health risks. We replace damaged sections or fit entirely new soil stack installations in PVC, which is durable, lightweight, and resistant to corrosion.
Manhole and Inspection Chamber Issues
Manholes and inspection chambers provide access to your underground drainage for maintenance and clearing. Cracked covers, collapsed chamber walls, or silted-up channels can all cause drainage problems. We repair and rebuild manholes and chambers, replacing damaged covers and frames as needed.
Gully Trap Blockages
The gully trap is the small drain - usually fitted with a grid - located outside your kitchen or utility room. It collects wastewater from sinks and appliances before it enters the underground drainage. These traps frequently block with grease and food debris. We clear and clean gully traps and, where necessary, replace damaged or undersized traps with modern units.
Why Correct Fall Gradient Matters
Every drainage pipe must be laid at a specific fall gradient to function properly. Too steep and the water runs away from the solids, leaving them behind to cause blockages. Too shallow and the water pools, creating slow drainage and potential odour problems. The standard fall for a 110mm drainage pipe is approximately 1:40 (a 25mm drop for every metre of pipe). We measure and set every pipe run to the correct gradient during installation and repair work.
